Day 5 & 6. Aug 3 & 4: Passing through Reds Meadow. 13 miles in / 14 miles out

This weekend began and ended very well.

Leaving Garnet was a beautiful sight as expected.
Rosalie lake was a great lunch spot where I was able to catch about 5 nice Rainbows before heading down to  Reds Meadow,  my resupply point.

Beautiful Garnet Lake with smoke-free morning air

Then I began to notice how desolate the forest is during the 6 miles into Devils Post-Pile and later Sunday, the 6-9 miles leaving Devils. It would seem to be a larger Devils playground than the Monument gets credit for. One stretch runs for 6 miles without water.  I did not hear or see one bird or animal the entire section.

Leaving Devil's Post-Pile on Day 6

Arriving at Purple lake on Sunday afternoon was a great ending to a long two day hike. The true beauty of the Sierras had returned. I even got a lucky horseshoe for my camp (unlucky horse).

BTW: The resupply at Reds Meadow was fast and furious. I showered in a real shower with hot water and did laundry with a real washer and dryer.  I gobbled down a cheeseburger and fries.  Then I picked up my resupply box of food at 5pm and headed down the road and set up camp with 3 other JMT hikers.  We sorted through our gear, traded candy bars, and I headed to the dumpster with gear that the first 5 days told me I didn't really need to carry.  The four of us were the first in line at 7am to load up on eggs and pancakes before heading south.
