Day 2. Aug 4. Tuolumne Meadows. 12 miles

"Will & Grace"

Today was about putting in the miles and getting to Tuolumne Meadows (TM) where I would meet CW.

From my campsite along Sunrise Creek, the trail makes a rigorous climb that took over an hour and a half. The low morning sun made the task bearable
and soon I reached a point where the trail rambled along with lots of shade and ferns line the path.

This was the place that CW had run out of Will on our hike in 2010. We were a day and a half from anywhere and things were now grim. The point is that today's hike past this same spot reminded me of how she was able to reach way deep inside herself and reclaim her Will to continue, and she did it with Grace.

The remainder of the hike continued north past the majestic spires of the Cathedral peaks. Afternoon thunder challenged me to a race back to TM. I think it was a tie. I ducked into the Visitors Center just as the rain started, thus validating my decision not to continue across the vast meadow that defines this area.

CW met me as I walked down the road of the very public campground we would be staying in. We headed to the TM lodge where we had dinner family style. We were seated with six very interesting ladies who were setting out on the High Sierra Camp circuit here in Yosemite. A shower at the lodge was a great way to finish the day.

But the day wasn't over apparently. Just as everyone was beginning to enjoy their campfires a wicked lightning storm moved right on top of us. The fury chased everyone to their tents or cars and a steady rain continues. Surely this will be gone tomorrow.

Thanks for following,
DW
