Day 0. Aug 2. Yosemite Valley

Today was a long drive to beautiful Yosemite Valley. We really enjoy the drive up Hwy 395 once you get to the small town of Lone Pine and everything north. That distinctive rural smell of cut hay usually greets you as you enter and leave each town.

The drive up to Tioga Pass is a sight to behold.
All the cars are like small ants crawling across massive shear walls of granite. To me, granite is the signature element of the Sierra Nevada and it serves to remind me that I have arrived.

But first, the crowds that pack this Park remind me that there are still a few miles to reach before the peace of the wilderness will be reached.

In the meantime CW and I are checked into our canvas tent cabin waiting for the 99 degree heat to yield to the cool of early evening. We had pizza for dinner and a pitcher of root beer. Just like John Muir. In fact John Muir will do a reading of his historical works at the Curry Village Amphitheater this evening.

The plan for tomorrow is to leave before sunrise and climb past Nevada Falls and up to an area along Sunrise Creek. CW will enjoy one more day in the Valley before we meet in Tuolumne Meadows on Saturday.

Thanks for following along,
DW
